How do I use TradingView for charting, including PSX stocks?

Short answer

TradingView is a web and mobile charting platform. Search a symbol (PSX shares use the "PSX:" prefix, for example PSX:OGDC), choose a chart type and time frame, add a few indicators, draw support and resistance, and set alerts. The free plan covers most needs; paid plans add more indicators per chart and more alerts. PSX data has been on TradingView since June 2023.

Getting started

  1. Create a free account on the website or mobile app.
  2. Search a symbol: PSX:HUBC for Hub Power, OANDA:XAUUSD or similar for gold, BINANCE:BTCUSDT for Bitcoin.
  3. Pick a time frame — daily for swing trading, 15-minute or 1-hour for intraday.
  4. Switch to candlesticks if the chart shows bars or a line.
  5. Save your layout so your indicators and drawings stay.

Charting PSX shares

TradingView added Pakistan Stock Exchange data in June 2023 through a data arrangement licensed via Deutsche Börse. Type "PSX:" followed by the ticker to find shares. Check whether the feed you see is real-time or delayed on your plan; for trading decisions on PSX, your broker's terminal and the PSX data portal remain the official sources.

A clean chart setup

  • One trend tool: the 50- and 200-day moving averages on the daily chart.
  • One momentum tool: RSI 14.
  • Volume at the bottom.
  • Your key levels drawn from the weekly and daily charts.
  • Everything else hidden — more indicators rarely mean better decisions.

Cautions

  • Public "ideas" on TradingView are opinions, often from unverified accounts; judge them by their reasoning.
  • Community scripts promising very high win rates are frequently repainting or curve-fitted.
  • Paper trading on TradingView has no slippage or emotion — expect real results to be worse.
  • TradingView can connect to some brokers, but offshore forex brokers remain unregulated in Pakistan.

Setting alerts that actually help

  1. Draw your key level first, then right-click it and choose Add alert.
  2. Pick "crossing" for breakouts or "entering channel" for a zone.
  3. Choose "once per bar close" so a brief wick does not trigger it.
  4. Turn on mobile push so you can step away from the screen instead of watching every tick.
  5. Delete alerts once a trade idea is no longer valid, so old levels do not distract you.
