What are the Pakistan Stock Exchange trading hours?
Last reviewed:
Short answer
The Pakistan Stock Exchange's regular market runs Monday to Thursday from 9:32 am to 3:30 pm Pakistan time, after a pre-open session from 9:15 am. On Friday trading is split into two sessions, 9:17 am to 12:00 pm and 2:32 pm to 4:30 pm, around Jumma prayers. PSX is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and uses shorter hours during Ramadan.
Standard timings (Pakistan Standard Time)
| Session | Monday – Thursday | Friday |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-open (orders entered, no trades) | 9:15 – 9:30 am | 9:00 – 9:15 am and 2:15 – 2:30 pm |
| Opening order matching | 9:30 – 9:32 am | 9:15 – 9:17 am and 2:30 – 2:32 pm |
| Regular market | 9:32 am – 3:30 pm | 9:17 am – 12:00 pm and 2:32 – 4:30 pm |
| Post-close (trades at closing price) | 3:35 – 3:50 pm | 4:35 – 4:50 pm |
What each session is for
- Pre-open: you can place, change and cancel orders, but nothing executes. It helps find a fair opening price after overnight news.
- Opening match: the system matches pre-open orders at a single opening price.
- Regular market: continuous trading, where orders execute as soon as a matching order exists.
- Post-close: trades only at the official closing price, useful if you missed the close.
Ramadan, holidays and weekends
PSX announces shorter Ramadan hours each year — in Ramadan 2026 the market closed at 1:30 pm Monday to Thursday and 12:30 pm on Friday, then returned to normal hours. The exchange is closed on weekends and on public holidays such as Eid, Independence Day and Quaid-e-Azam Day; the holiday calendar is published on the PSX website. Unlike crypto or forex, PSX does not trade on Saturday or Sunday.
Practical tips
- The first hour after the open usually has the most volume and the biggest moves.
- Your broker's app may accept orders outside hours; they queue for the next pre-open.
- Trades settle T+1 — Friday's trades settle on Monday, so plan cash around weekends and holidays.
- Big policy news (State Bank rate decisions, the budget) often lands after hours; expect gaps at the next open.
